The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy

The Creator

Douglas Adams was born in Cambridge in March of 1952. In 1978 he created the first manifestation of his hugely popular "The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series - a BBC radio production. Over the course of his life, he wrote five "The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books; the first two were adapted into a six part television series. When Douglas Adams died of a sudden heart attack in May of 2001, he was working on a feature film version. He was 49.

The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy on the BBC

Starting on March 8, 1978 the original two series of "The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy" radio shows aired. In all, there were twelve episodes, starring Peter Jones as the book, Mark Wing-Davey as Zaphod Beblebrox, Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Geoffrey McGivern as Ford Prefect, and Stephen Moore as Marvin the Paranoid Android. Technically "The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy" is not an "Old Time Radio" show, but it is very similar - and very enjoyable.
